Saturday’s Market Haul

More Farmers’ Market Lovin’

Fresh Georgia peaches! I got my 8 lb bag of bruised peaches for $3 while my not-so-deal-saavy sister decides to get a 5 lb bag of unripe ones for $5. I give the guy 3 bucks and a 5 dollar bill. Back home, I realize that I’ve still got two fives in my wallet but my fifty is missing. Panic. Fortunately, the guy was super cool about it when I went back. Farmers rock.

Also, bruised strawberries. Two gallons for…. $5 total. How frackin’ cool is that? She originally quoted me $5 each for the two gallons, but when I told her I only needed one, she just threw in the second one too.

What does one do with 2 GALLONS of ripe strawberries? Make 2 gallons-worth of no-added-sugar strawberry jam. Mmmmm.

Farmers’ Market

Local Saturday-morning farmers’ market—hand’s down, one of the best parts of summer.

 image

Fresh, organic, locally grown, decently priced strawberries. Mmmmm. Had to get a pint.

Wish I could have taken this dog too. He totally dog-kissed another dog there.
It was super cute…I wasn’t creepin’ on dog mackin’ or anything.

Carrots for my friend Sydney.

The picture’s not the best, but these chives were ENORMOUS. I thought they were leeks at first. I swear, one of them was as thick as my wrist. Insane. Sydney suggested stuffing them—hmmm.

Rock Hill Farms—the best part of the market. It’s run by the coolest guys. They had 200lb+ pumpkins last year.

Sydney asked for the smallest head of cabbage they had. The guy grabbed a radish, wrapped it in cabbage leaf, and handed it to her. Lol.

Macarons from a local bakery. I had never tried one before sampling theirs. AMAZING. I’ll have to avoid this table next time.

Super bright day + crappy photographer=overexposed photos

How cute is that packaging?

Aside from strawberries, I also filled my bag with tons of radishes, squash, broccoli, and peaches—for around $10. Did I mention that I love summer?

I can’t wait until the summer berries, peppers, and tomatoes start showing up.
